Breathing Space

 An excerpt from “Fire”
by Judy Brown

What makes a fire burn
Is space between the logs,
a breathing space.
Too much of a good thing,
too many logs packed in too tight
can squelch a fire,
can douse the flames
almost as surly
as a pail of water can.

Sometimes the best question to ask is not "what do I need to do," but "what do I need to stop doing."
